about

2nd version of "In Crowded Faces".

This song is about thanking the audience or fans in the underground for support and remembering why you make art or choose a creative existenvce. It is about not accepting that you have to live a gray, boring life. Boredom should not exist. Right now we are spinning through the solar system!

Danny Ilchuck really made his biggest mark on this record when he made me change the bridge. On the first version of this song on the IN CROWDED FACES EP I just sang the chorus again in a low Danzig-influenced style over the bridge. This version, due to Kurt Brown and Ilchuck's insistence, I sang in a higher register and added new lyrics inspired by Dr. Know telling me motivational stuff. "Each One Teach One," is a phrase Doc says often about how we all can learn from one another in life. One of my favorite quotes and so I added it in.

The chorus lyric of "Be my sun" is about being inspired by an audience but also feeling like I communicate best through music and "though you'll never understand a word I say" is about feeling like words can fail where songs can take root and exist on deeper levels of understanding.

It could also be interpreted as "Be, my son", which is about how my dad encouraged me to be creative but we also had communication problems at times over the years and how he would withdraw from talking things out when he was having a hard time with alchoholism or pain and regrets from his life. I love this song and it makes me happy that I have a great relationship with people who care about my art and also that nowadays my dad and I have a great communication and trust.

My father almost died of a heart attack during the making of this record and I had written the second verse of this song years before after he and I had a bad argument.

The "we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed" lyric comes from The Holy Bible.

This song has a great Tool influence/marching thing going on but with big hooks.

lyrics

So those who've kept their promises, I feel so honored to have spent some lifetime as your soundtrack, on beds of nails...
