about

"Brand New Lie" is the most popular song from people who know this album. I get asked about it fairly often, actually.

I love that this song has a semi-reggae feel to the haunting riff, which was fitting since we worked with Dr. Know. It is a tune about integrity in the music industry and underground and how bonds are more important than commercialism and fame.

Sometimes the familiar is better than a new toy.

Bodie's drum beat is perfect, such a great groove. Like "Rain Bridge" on the IN CROWDED FACES EP, this song also talks a bit about hanging up fliers and being DIY. The line, "Hats off to the staple gun brigade" is about giving props to DIY kids who go out and promote their own shows. Nowadays you have the interwebs but in the 90's when I came up it was driving around plastering questionable punk rock fliers on telephone poles.

"God child" in the song is a term for innocence.

Contrary to what most people think, Chris Bittner (first 3 basisst and a producer at Applehead Studios) in fact played bass on this song and "Trophy Bride".

lyrics

Why would I take your paper on my sighs and put all your weight onto my own thinking?
